That there’s something inside .. hope

A movie quote from the movie The Shawshank Redemption:

Andy Dufresne: That’s the beauty of music. They can’t get that from you… Haven’t you ever felt that way about music?
Red: I played a mean harmonica as a younger man. Lost interest in it though. Didn’t make much sense in here.
Andy Dufresne: Here’s where it makes the most sense. You need it so you don’t forget.
Red: Forget?
Andy Dufresne: Forget that… there are places in this world that aren’t made out of stone. That there’s something inside… that they can’t get to, that they can’t touch. That’s yours.
Red: What’re you talking about?
Andy Dufresne: Hope.

It Aint Over Till Its Over

Filed under: Life, hollywood, movies, quotes, rocky — vivekian2 @ 2:58 am

Sometimes a single movie quote is more powerful than the combined strength of all religious texts

Rocky Balboa: The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place It will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me or nobody is going to hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit, it is about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward, how much can you take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now, if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain’t you. You’re better than that!

Lights out in Australia

Filed under: Life, australia, environment, globalwarming, news — vivekian2 @ 2:50 pm

Came across this refreshing piece of news that the city of Sidney in a symbolic gesture had switched off its lights for an hour to raise awareness about global warming. Although an hour of switched lights will in no way save the environment it will go a long way to trigger a thousand ideas on how to conserve energy. After banning incandescent light bulbs this is the second big step Australia has taken. Living in India teaches one a very important lesson that resources are always limited and should be utilized carefully without wastage. Just doing small things like switching off your lights before going out, using fluorescent lights instead of incandescent, putting your laptop to sleep when not in use are just small steps which when added together might go on to make a huge difference. We all need to care a little bit and make a big difference.
